Maybe I Would Have Won

I wanted so very much to be with you to help me bring in the New Year.
At the stroke of twelve I wanted two pairs of lips to kiss not empty tears.

Alas, once more I let you down
I rant, I rave, and then I frown.

For what have I done to change this life?
How could I wait like a good little wife?
For my nemesis to do what is right.
When never has he shown he might.

Once again I say I’m sorry for all I’ve done,
For all I have not tried, maybe I would have won.

I hope that me you can forgive
And that you both still want to live
At my hearth, our home for you
I’ll try harder, this I will do.

This conflict between him and I,
Will hurt you more I ask why?

I know you love him, you always will.
I also know our bond of love he steals
Away from us, with all this pain,
Why does he not feel his shame?

Once again I say I’m sorry for all I’ve done,
For all I have not tried, maybe I would have won.
