Memorial Day

Memories of a life that could have been,
                                       Effortlessly to war; tossed aside.
Money and power the reason for the regimen.
Orders to move out; green soldiers untried.
Reaching the shores of a foreign pier,
Into a country where they were lost and scattered.
All who followed those orders in fear,
Lived only long enough to realize what mattered.

Death and time do not give us second chances.
                                       Altering paradigms; darkness advances.
                                       Yesterday a life-today a memory dances.
